Programs

All programs of Nutrition Plus are designed to improve the health, nutrition and wellbeing of Indigenous and disadvantaged children at participating schools.

In order to improve the nutritional status and health of children in the short-term, participants will receive a whole food based nutritional supplement (Juice Plus+®), the world’s most researched nutriceutical (www.juiceplus.com.au).

Medium to long-term programs are designed to ensure there is long-term sustainability in health outcomes for participating communities. These will include design and construction of community gardens, seed propagation, planting, maintaining and harvesting from community permaculture gardens. Where possible, bush-tucker species will be incorporated into the gardens.

Produce from the gardens can be used in school breakfast and lunch programs, redistributed to participating community volunteers working on the gardens, used in cooking classes with school and community participants or used to develop cottage industry projects particularly involving any bush-tucker species.

Where possible local indigenous knowledge will be incorporated into as many aspects of the programs as possible and it is intended that there will be a two way exchange of awareness, knowledge and skills relating to both practical and informative aspects of the programs, including “Talks about Tucker” and education modules to assist in improving knowledge about the role of fruits and vegetables, nutrition and general health.

Nutrition Plus is looking to expand its operations throughout Australia, with the assistance of our partners and donors.

Patrons

Peter Glennie

Peter was one of the founding Board Directors of Nutrition Plus, but he resigned from that position and became a Patron of Nutrition Plus in 2010. Peter CEO of NSA (Juice Plus+ ®) Australia assists Nutrition Plus by providing office space, administrative support and materials, Juice Plus+® products at cost price, freight, and other financial and in-kind support to Nutrition Plus.
Nutrition Plus wishes to thank Peter for everything that he and NSA Australia do to assist the charity.

Partners

All the present programs of Nutrition Plus are being evaluated by Masters students enrolled at Murdoch University in WA, a major partner of Nutrition Plus, through a pilot study. There are two enrolled Masters students, one of whom is Indigenous.

Other major partners include NSA International, NSA Australia (the makers and suppliers of Juice Plus+®) and their franchisees. Between them they are providing funding towards a Masters scholarship at Murdoch University, sponsoring around 100 children in the pilot study and providing Juice Plus+® at cost to Nutrition Plus.

Other partners include the Awabakal People of the Newcastle region, Reconciliation Australia, Department of Education and Training Western Australia and two schools in Western Australia. Because these schools are involved in a pilot study with Murdoch University they cannot be named to ensure the integrity and independence of the study.
